Angmering Community Centre takes big step forward
ANGMERING'S long-awaited community centre took a major step forward this week, as parish councillors voted on a series of key decisions on the project's future.
One month after villagers appeared divided over the centre during a public meeting called to discuss the plans, and the parish council, warned it could face legal action if the scheme did not go ahead, the council confirmed its commitment on Monday night (October 8).
The new hall, to be built on the Bramley Green development, has been opposed by some residents on the estate, who are concerned about potential noise and disturbance.
After the council decided to proceed with the planning application, one woman declared during a public question time: "As far as I am concerned, we are not finished and we are going above your heads. We will get it moved. You can have it, but not there."
The parish council also agreed to appoint a project manager for the scheme, to put the building contract out to tender, once the plans have been approved by Arun District Council, and to make the centre larger by 3m along one side, to enable the capacity to remain at 200 people when temporary staging is used, and to allow short mat bowls to be played.
