WALKING football enthusiasts from across Littlehampton joined a one-off competition at a community pitch at Brighton & Hove Albion’s training ground last week.

The American Express Elite Performance Centre played host to the first over-50 men’s walking football tournament in the south east, organised by Albion in the Community.

Five teams competed in the competition – Brighton, Portsmouth, AFC Wimbledon, Charlton and Crystal Palace.

Jack Kool, 68, of Littlehampton, was part of the Brighton team.

He said: “I got involved in over-50s walking football after attending a taster session in Littlehampton and have really enjoyed it since. It gives a number of the older generation a chance to stay involved with football.”

Brighton boss Chris Hughton took part in a coaches versus Albion match, while first-team striker Sam Baldock watched the action from the sideline.

The event was also used as the launch of the Albion in the Community bid to bring the sport to locations across Sussex, including the Arun district. For details, call 07880 195515 or email paul.brackley@albioninthecommunity.org.uk
