MORE than 100 letters have been sent out to burglary victims across West Sussex in a bid to reunite almost 600 pieces of what police believe may be stolen property with their rightful owners.
Detectives from West Sussex Priority Crime Team recently seized the items, which include a huge quantity of jewellery, electrical goods, luggage and other personal items, from a premises in Bognor Regis.
Detective Sergeant Michelle Auger, who has been leading on the operation said: “This has been the biggest haul of believed stolen property we have come across for some time and was discovered by some diligent and proactive enquiries by my officers.
“Not all of the property is of a very high monetary value but I’m sure most of it will have some sentimental value to the owners concerned.
“There are too many items for us to check individually, so we’re asking people who reported burglaries in the West Sussex and South Hampshire areas since last Autumn to have a look at the jewellery on-line and see if they recognise anything and if so, then fill in the very basic form and we’ll take it from there.

Last month, Sussex Police uploaded around 2,000 images of what is also believed to be stolen jewellery seized from a premises in Eastbourne. These items can still be viewed on the website at http://goldrush.sussex-police.co.uk
