With her beaming smile, it is hard to believe Olive Richardson is 106 years old.

And according to her daughter Carol Booth, humour is the secret to Olive’s longevity, having celebrated the milestone on Tuesday at Fernbank Care Home in Gratwicke Road, Worthing.

Carol said: “I think it’s brilliant she has turned 106.

“We always get so much out of our visits because we always end up laughing. Her sense of humour is brilliant.”

The youngest of five children, Olive was born in The Drive, West Worthing, when her mother was 49.

She attended Elm Grove School in Elm Grove, Worthing until she was 14 and met her husband of 47 years, Sid Richardson, when she was 16 at a dance at The Connaught Theatre.

The pair got married in 1933 when Olive was 23 at St Botolph’s Church in Lansdowne Road, West Worthing. They lived at Sid’s family home in North Street, Worthing where they raised their three children Eric, Brenda and Carol.

Olive celebrated her birthday with her children, a glass of Champagne and a cake which she cut.

Olive also has three grandchildren – Anna, Adam and Neil – and three great-grandchildren, Jake, Bobbie-Louise and Thomas.
