Flat-owner loses planning appeal

THE owner of a flat in a listed building in Littlehampton’s seafront South Terrace has lost an appeal against an order to take out replacement uPVC double-glazed windows and install timber frames matching the original sashes.

Planning inspector Anthony Wharton upheld the enforcement notice served on Dean Ketcher, the owner of flat 2, 25 South Terrace, by Arun District Council.

Mr Ketcher appealed against the order, arguing that the late 18th/early 19th century building, in Littlehampton’s seafront conservation area, was not of special architectural or historic interest and was not worthy of preservation.

However, his claim was dismissed by Mr Wharton, who said the building remained a fine example of a seaside terraced house and the uPVC windows adversely affected its appearance.
