Picture perfect postcard views of Arundel and Littlehampton

The primary school pupils rose to Arun District Council’s challenge of designing postcards depicting what they love most about the area in which they live.

The task was set for St Philip’s Catholic Primary School in Arundel and River Beach Primary School in Littlehampton during a visit to Arun Civic Centre in November last year for National Takeover Day, an event where young people learn about how the council works.

The postcards illustrate Arundel Castle, Arundel Cathedral, the River Arun, beach huts on Littlehampton foreshore, Littlehampton Pier and East Beach Café.

They are available to view online via the Sussex by the Sea website and Facebook page, and in person at the Look and Sea Visitor Centre and Arun Civic Centre reception in Littlehampton.

Paul Dendle, cabinet member for leisure and amenities, said: “I am tremendously impressed with the artistic talent these young Arun residents have demonstrated.

“They have done a fantastic job highlighting some of the best places to visit in both Arundel and Littlehampton.

“I am sure their artwork will encourage people to visit the Arun district’s many wonderfu ltourist attractions.

“If after viewing their artwork, you are still looking for inspiration of where to visit in the district, I would recommend visiting the Sussex by the Sea website or pick up a pocket visitor guide from local Visitor Information Points in Arundel, Bognor Regis and Littlehampton for handy tips on what to see and do.”

The postcards were designed by Jasmine, Rhiannon and William from St Philip’s and Brianna, Daniella, Izzy, Nikita, Jayden, Feodor and Miguel from River Beach.

Sue Bingham, lead learner with responsibility for information communication technology at River Beach Primary School, said: “Children at our school are enthusiastic about their coastal location.

“They study it as part of their curriculum in many different ways, from a geographical perspective, inspiration for art and writing, learning about our community, as well as a backdrop for historical re-enactments.”

Children in Bognor Regis will have an opportunity to use their artistic talents on Monday, August 29.
