The Angmering School’s head teacher David Brixey has looked back on his 25 years at the school having retired from his position last week.

He said: “When I arrived here as deputy head in April 1991 I never dreamed I would still be here in 2016. I enjoyed my time as a deputy and learnt a lot from Richard Evea, our head teacher. I was privileged to stand in for him when he was seconded to another school in 2002. When he decided to stay, I was lucky to be appointed head teacher here.

“It is strange to think that I may have contact with up to 10,000 people as students in the schools I have worked in. When I look back on my career, there have been many high points and warm memories. Most of them revolve around seeing young people flourish and develop – sometimes against the odds. Over the past few weeks I have had students, ex-students, parents and staff reminding me of these high points.

“This school is a good school and is unique – because it is an inclusive, welcoming and supportive place in which to study and work.

“I am leaving the school in the good hands of Mr Liley, the governors and our wonderful staff.

“Being a head teacher can be a big challenge but it is also the best job in the world. Thank you to everyone who helped it to be that way for me.”

New head Simon Liley will starts in September.
