Witness appeal after Tesco employee '˜held at knifepoint'

Police are appealing for witnesses after a member of Tesco staff was reportedly held at knifepoint by a man demanding cash.

At about 10.53pm on yesterday police were made aware of an alarm which activated at Tesco Express in Broadwater Street West in Worthing.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said ‘a member of staff reported being held at knifepoint by a man demanding cash.’

However, the suspect fled empty handed and no one was injured, police said.

Officers attended and shortly afterwards, a 24-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested nearby on suspicion of robbery. He remains in police custody and is assisting officers with enquiries, according to Sussex Police.
