A knife, believed to be smeared with blood, has been discovered near a Rustington primary school this morning (Friday, November 16).
A dog walker strolling along Brookfield Park’s perimeter path, just east of Hollyhock Way, stumbled upon the six-inch blade shortly before 9am.
The path near to the where the weapon was found is regularly used by parents walking their children to nearby Summerlea Primary School – a mere 300m away.
The 39-year-old man immediately contacted the police.
A spokeswoman for Sussex Police confirmed that a substance, which could be blood, was discovered on the blade but added officers weren’t sure how the knife came to be left in the park.
She said: “There have been no incidents reported to police overnight or in recent days in which this knife may be linked to and officers would encourage anyone with information about the knife or how it ended up in the park to contact police.”
Those with information should call police on 101 quoting serial 307 of 16/11, or independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
