FIFTY firefighters were called to a Sussex city centre hotel in the early hours of this morning (Monday April 13) after flames rushed up the outside walls from the restaurant below.
Guests were evacuated from the Travelodge, in Chapel Street, Chichester, and taken to the Travelodge hotel at Fontwell.
No one was hurt but firefighters were tackling the flames from 1.15am until 4am.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, but is believed to have started in a store room or utility room at the rear of the Belle Isle restaurant, which is part of the same building as the Travelodge.
A room on the second floor was damaged but most of the devastation was on the third floor – with four or five rooms damaged.
Ten fire engines were at the scene at its height, as well as the fire brigade’s recently-bought aerial ladder platform.
