RESIDENTS turned out in force to gain a first full view of controversial plans for 300 homes within Angmering village.
Campaign group Save Angmering Village voiced its concerns about the development, which it claims will overstretch existing road infrastructure and community facilities.
Sue Ware, of the group, said the majority of residents felt “incensed” by the proposals, which she felt ignored the neighbourhood plan being created by the village.
Speaking at the development exhibition at the village hall, she believed the plans were not sustainable, with her views being shared by more than 100 people who’ve so far signed a petition.
In her opinion, the plans were not acceptable in light of a significant volume of housing already being put forward for a neighbouring site at Worthing Rugby club.
David Wilson homes, lead developer on the site, said the company aimed to engage with the community to produce a development that was suitable for the area.
However, serious concerns have been raised over the village’s road network, which struggles with present traffic volumes connecting with the already near-capacity A259 which despite campaigners efforts, still single lane traffic for a significant section.
It is believed initial plans for the scheme will be put before Arun District Council next month. For full report see the next edition of the Littlehampton Gazette.
