Play area volunteer – HM Prison Ford

Volunteers are required to supervise and provide interesting/appropriate activities for visiting children within the play area of the social visits hall of the Prison. Volunteers greet and talk with the children and their parents, and activities include playing with toys and the use of craft materials. Visits are on Sunday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 2pm to 4pm plus half hour either side – a total commitment three hours per session. Volunteers can commit to one or more sessions, ideally once a fortnight. Experience of working/being with children in a family environment (aged from 1 to 14) would be useful, but training will be given.

Walks leader – Arundel Museum Society

Arundel Museum Society offers guided town walks during the summer and they wish to extend these walks. The walk leader is required to learn a set route, and deliver a ‘walking lecture’ on the selected aspect of local history. Group size is between 8 and 20 people and a second volunteer accompanies the group as steward. Training will be provided. For this role you must be a confident and able presenter who is prepared to learn a script and deliver it with assurance, and answer additional questions. There may also be opportunities for dramatisation.

Shop worker (Littlehampton) – Scope West Sussex

Scope exists to make this country a place where disabled people have the same opportunities as everyone else. They provide support, information and advice to more than a quarter of a million disabled people and their families every year. Shop workers are required to carry out various duties such as: till work; sorting, hanging and steaming clothes; sorting bric-a-Brac and window dressing. No experience is needed as full training will be given, but you will need good team skills and a pleasant manner plus a good sense of humour. Various days and hours are available to suit you.

Treasurer – Sussex Steel

Sussex Steel is a charity created by individuals who are passionate about steelpan and committed to increasing the musical opportunities for people in Sussex and beyond. They teach steelpan in schools and workshops, and run several bands. They are looking for someone to look after the financial aspects of the charity and be the main contact with their accountants. Duties will include: expenses, payments, banking, wages and cash flow. The role would suit someone with experience of financial accounting, ideally with a charity, and can be carried out in your own home; although you will be required to attend monthly trustee meetings.
