Celebrations for 150th anniversary of railway line

A RAILWAY line running through Barnham turns 150 this year – and a party is being held to celebrate the milestone birthday.

Celebrations will be held on June 1 to mark the 150th anniversary of the Barnham and Bognor Regis branch line.

Sussex Community Rail Partnership and train operating company Southern will be hosting the activities and are inviting those interested in rail history to celebrate the day.

On the day, entertainment will include performances by Rox Music and Arts, with live music on Barnham railway station’s platforms.

There will also be a vintage bus tour from Barnham station to the restored signal box, which is now based at Aldingbourne.

There, the story of the restoration of this historic signal box and its journey from Barnham station to its current home will be told.

Next door to the station there will be more model railway displays courtesy of the Bognor Regis Model Railway Club.

There will also be a bus journey to the new Barnham Community Hall, where visitors can have a ride on a miniature steam railway, take the controls of a model railway layout, and enjoy tea and cake.

There will also be an appearance by un-named special surprise guests.

The party starts at 10am and is scheduled to finish at 5pm.

There will also be a number of events on the day taking place in Bognor Regis.
