MP visits A27 roadworks site between Sompting and Shoreham

MP Tim Loughton at the site of the roadworks

As the replacement of drainage on the A27 caused further delays this week, MP Tim Loughton visited the site of the roadworks.

The East Worthing and Shoreham MP met managers from the Highways Agency on Friday morning after constituents had complained to him about the roadworks, which began last Monday.

Mr Loughton was given a tour of the two-mile site, between Shoreham and Sompting, and a briefing on what motorists and residents could expect over the next three months.

He said the traffic had been “embarrassingly good” on the day but acknowledged this may have been because people had planned alternate routes, which would put pressure on roads like the A259.

Mr Loughton questioned whether more work could be carried out at night, though he was told less noisy tasks like drain installation were already being done at night.

For the full story, read the Worthing Herald and Shoreham Herald, out from Thursday, October 11.
