PRIZE-WINNING pies and succulently successful sausages helped a Climping business to sweep the board once again in a national competition.

Baird’s Farm Shop, at Climping, triumphed in the British Pig Executive’s sausage, pie and ready meals awards.

The shop’s staff returned with a haul of 13 golds and four silvers from the competition, held at the South of England showground at Ardingly, last month. All 17 entries picked up an award.

All five sausages – Toulouse, traditional pork, Cumberland, beef and ginger and lamb tikka – reached the gold standard.

Judges also awarded top marks to eight products from the Bairds bakery department – for the chicken and ham pie, steak pie, beef bourguignon pie, pork pie, pork pie topped with fruit, shepherd’s pie, cottage pie and sausage roll.

Business owner Alison Baird was delighted with the results. “I want to thank all of our team for their hard work and attention to detail and I also want to thank all of our loyal customers who have supported us over the years, because without their continued support, none of this would be possible,” she said.

Alison’s sister Marion and her bakery team baked the pies, sausage rolls and ready meals and she was also pleased with the impressive haul of awards, amidst the friendly rivalry between the bakers and the butchery team led by Tim Porter.

“We have stiff competition here between our butchers and bakers and I’m really pleased my team pipped them this time!”
