HUNDREDS of students and staff at The Littlehampton Academy have been evacuated today (Thursday, October 23) after a suspected gas leak at the school was reported.
Teachers were called out of their classrooms shortly before 2.30pm today and returned to tell students that the academy was to close immediately, a concerned parent has said.
A spokesman for Woodard Academies Trust, the group which runs the academy, explained that students and staff were being evacuated as a safety precaution.
He added the school would remain closed for the rest of the day and potentially tomorrow (Friday, October 24), depending on how severe the leak was.
Full details on whether or not the academy, in Fitzalan Road, will be open tomorrow will be available on the school’s website, here.
