A NEW group has been formed to help keep the beach at East Preston free from rubbish.

Members of Arun East U3A launched the initiative earlier this month, collecting bags of rubbish in the first operation on Thursday, January 14.

The new U3A Beach Clean is sponsored by Seaview Stores, in Sea Road, East Preston, where manager Danny Shah hopes to create more awareness of the group’s efforts and encourage more people to take part.

“The aim of this group is to keep our beach clean and to identify the marine and birdlife,” he added.

“Some of these details are being passed on to the appropriate organisations.”

The U3A Beach Clean group meets on East Preston beach on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month.

The operation starts by the Open Dinghy Club, in Sea Lane, and moves across the beach from there.

The U3A is a network of self-help groups which promote lifelong learning and leisure activities for older people who are no longer in full-time employment.
