Bar '˜not ruling out ban' on 18 to 21 year olds

A popular Worthing bar has said it '˜will not rule out a ban' on allowing entrance to 18 to 21 year olds following a number of fights outside the premises in the early hours of Saturday morning (February 25).

Bar Ten, in High Street, has decided to increase security, however, by installing a machine which recognises offenders who have caused trouble at other bars and clubs across the country.

The decision was made during an internal investigation after two people were arrested for fighting on Saturday morning after several street brawls broke out.

The machine will alert door staff if a customer has a previous poor record at another club or bar in the country simply by scanning a customer’s ID.

It also allows door staff to enter details onto the system if anyone is kicked out of the bar for fighting or general poor behaviour.

This information can then be accessed by door staff at other bars and clubs which use this machine.

The machine is currently used in thousands of bars in locations including Brighton, London and Manchester.

Daniel Trudgian, manager at Bar Ten, said: “What happened on Saturday morning is very serious so we have decided we need to do something about it.

“We are not ruling out a ban on 18 to 21 year olds but we do realise there are a number of good customers in this age bracket who have done nothing wrong. We don’t want to exclude decent people.

“This machine allows us to keep tabs on people who have previous record of fighting in bars. If they have a previous record then they won’t come in.

“Thousands of bars across the country use this machine.”

Mr Trudgian said his staff are reviewing footage from Saturday morning and currently have a list of 25 names of people they believe were involved in the fights.

He added: “A video has gone round social media from Saturday morning which a number of people have tagged themselves or their friends in saying they were involved. We have compiled a list from this and CCTV footage from the night.

“We will update customers if we choose to put in a ban.

“My licence is more important than money.

“We (Bar Ten) will not tolerate bad attitude and bad behaviour.”
