COMMUNITY transport services across the Arun district have been given more than £17,000 of backing.

Sammy Community Transport and Arun Co-ordinated Community Transport will gain the continued support from Arun District Council.

The Ford-based Arun group will get £10,500 in the year from April. Sammy, based in North Bersted, is to receive £6,430.

In addition, the West Sussex Mediation Service will get a same-again £3,500.

The decisions were made by Arun’s cabinet members on Monday.

They were told by Robin Wickham, the council’s leisure and voluntary sector manager the community transport services were essential.

“They provide a valuable community service and have done so for a number of years to vulnerable members of the community,” he said.
