Arun Wellbeing have launched a free ‘Cook and Eat’ course to encourage confidence in the kitchen.

The six sessions will aim to help people cook affordable and healthy meals from scratch.

Running for two hours, the classes will feature food tasting, basic nutrition, food labelling, budgeting, tips on shopping, practical cooking-knife skills, cooking methods and food hygiene.

Councillor Paul Wotherspoon, Arun District Council Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “Having the skills and the confidence to cook a delicious healthy meal can not only be enjoyable but good for your body too.

“This course could help improve your culinary skills, give you healthy eating tips and useful hints on shopping.”

Designed to be suitable for all, the sessions welcome children aged under-16 if they are accompanied by an adult, while those aged between 16 and 17 will need permission from a parent or guardian.

The menu includes the likes of beetroot muffins and vegetable spaghetti bolognese as meals participants could make.

The courses will be led by Jocelyn Dodgson from Food Matters, a not-for-profit national food policy and advocacy organisation.

In Bognor Regis the courses start at 3.30pm and finish at 5.30pm and will be held at the Bersted Park Community Centre in Lakeland Avenue, in Littlehampton the courses start at 11.30am and finish at 1.30pm and will be held at the United Church, High Street, with the sessions finishing on August 25.
