AS DREAMS go, making your own documentary and having it aired on Channel 4 is right up there with winning the lottery.
That is exactly what Rebecca, or Beckie Saunders has done, at only 18 years old.

A Guide to Taking Photos will be shown on Monday,(11) at 6.55pm, as a Three Minute Wonder.

Beckie, who grew up in Arundel Road, Angmering, with parents Alan and
Heather, said: "I was just on the Channel 4 website, and there was an
ad that asked could you put your identity into 300 words.

"I did it, to see if I could, and then thought I may as well enter the competition."

She then forgot all about it, until six months later, when she got a letter from the station.

"It said that I had been short-listed."

Beckie spent a week in London, where the eight finalists became four.

Taking the form of a photography manual, the film tackles issues facing young carers.

"My mum has been quite ill over the last few years. I have three younger siblings, who I looked after when my mum was in hospital and my dad was at work.

"It is about how that fits in with being me. I really love photography, and brought the ideas together."

She and the three other winners are now in talks with the producers of Channel 4's Skins, with a view be becoming contributing writers.

The future, then, is quite diverse for Beckie, who is taking A Levels in biology and chemistry at the Angmering School, and has been accepted to study medicine at Bristol University.
