BANKERS have killed off masterplans to transform three Mid Sussex towns by pulling the plug on funding.
The decision by Lloyds Bank was confirmed by Deloittes, administrators for troubled Thornfield Ventures.
Thornfield Ventures is the holding company of Thornfield Properties, Mid Sussex District Council's partners in the masterplans.
None of the town centre schemes for Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath, and East Grinstead has reached planning approval stage.
Although the council holds the masterplan designs, any hopes of a future scheme rest on other developers being persuaded they are worthwhile in the current fragile economic climate.
Despite the shattering blow to its plans the council says it remains committed to transforming the town centres.
Full story by Carolyn Robertson in the current edition (March 11) of the Mid Sussex Times.
