After a sell-out for their first Brighton appearance left many White Lies fans peering into the gig from outside, the inclusion of a date at Brighton's Komedia on their latest tour was very welcome.
The crowd seemed made up more of those who were interested in knowing what the fuss was about, rather than being big fans of the band, so it was down to the rapidly up-and-coming White Lies to show them.

Songs such as "Death", the first "genuine"
single from the forthcoming album "To Lose My Life or Lose My Love", along with previously unreleased material, seemed like the kind of tunes to get up and dance to, but response from the below capacity audience was reserved, bar the exuberant and already enamoured.

White Lies' short time in their current incarnation may explain why they blasted their way through the set in comfortably under an hour.

Epic sound

Though it was short, it was certainly sweet. Myspace hits such as "From the Stars" and "Unfinished Business" sounded terrific, especially in this bijoux setting, and the band really seemed to enjoy themselves throughout the gig.

There wasn't too much breaking of the fourth wall from the Lies, although with experience will come the confidence to partake in more band-to-crowd interaction.

A smaller venue such as Komedia is ideal for a band on its first nationwide tour and the intimate surroundings certainly amplified White Lies' epic sound.

With the album out in January, expect plenty of touring from them, as well as supporting Glasvegas later this year.

"To Lose My Life or Lose My Love" looks like being a winner (If Zane Lowe says it, it must be true), and although the White Lies, all in black, may dress like they're going to a funeral, expect this band to have a long and successful life.
