THE mellow stone walls and beautiful gardens of medieval St Mary's House, Bramber, are to provide a perfect backdrop for an open-air presentation of timeless farce Charley's Aunt.
No set will be needed for the show, with the audience easily able to image they are spending a summer's evening in the gardens of an Oxford college.

Soon, the sleepy atmosphere is interrupted by a frantic series of mistaken identities, ill-fitting disguises and unexpected romances.

Deranged uncles, cross-dressing, ravishing heroines, absurd impersonations and wildly farcical knockabout humour all help to carry the audience along in a whirl of disbelief at the unpredictable antics of two of the undergraduates.

It's all about the wooing of sweethearts and the lengths that the two young men will go to trap their darling little angels.

There are plenty of laughs interspersed with moments of touching romance. Etiquette soon goes out of the window – along with several of the characters!

Will Charley make an appearance – and who is his aunt? Find out as six actors create a rollercoaster ride of breakneck speed and unmatched energy – and reveal the odd trick from up their sleeves.

Staged by Heartbreak Productions, Charley's Aunt will start at 6pm on Saturday, August 23, and will go ahead whatever the weather.

People are invited to bring picnics and folding chairs, although rugs and umbrellas are not permitted.

Gates open at 5pm and tickets cost £15 for adults and £5 for children.
