AWARD-WINNING composer and singer-songwriter Paul Field brings his latest musical, Cargo, to Rustington next week.
The production uses music, words, dance and images to tell the story of the campaign to abolish slavery 200 years ago, and the struggle for freedom by the African slaves themselves.
It goes on to use the historical background to raise awareness of
the many forms of slavery still in existence today, and shows how ordinary people, past and present, can work together to bring about change.
Paul, winner of an Ivor Novello Award from the Academy of Songwriters, has also written and produced songs on many gold and platinum records.
Sir Cliff Richard, Elkie Brooks and Tammy Wynette are among the artistes who have hits with his songs.
He has also written seven musicals which have been performed by more than 500 church and community groups to audiences totalling more than 45,000 and will be joined by a group of professional musicians for the performance of Cargo at Rustington Methodist Church, Claigmar Road, on Saturday, October 11, at 7.30pm.
The event has been organised by Churches Together in Rustington.
Tickets, price £5, are available from the Methodist Church office in Claigmar Road, between 9.30am and noon on Monday, Tuesday and Friday, or telephone 01903 776900.
Tea and biscuits will be available after the performance and there will be a stall selling fairtrade products.
