A WORTHING girl band are just one performance away from winning a recording contract and £25,000-worth of prizes.
Just Those Girls, made up of five girls from Worthing and East Preston, won the south coast regional final of the Idol 2008 competition held in Hove on Saturday.
The girls – Vickie Hampson, 21, her sister Grace, 20, both of Durrington, Marina Polito, 18, of Goring, Helene Ridley, 18, of East Preston, and Lucy Roberts, 20, of Durrington – wowed the judges with their rendition of Abba's Does Your Mother Know.
They will now perform in the national finals in Portsmouth on November 29.
Vickie said: "We only have to perform one song, and that's it.
"We don't know what song yet, but it will be a crowd-pleaser. The standard at the final will be a lot higher, but we'll try our best."
The girls had 150 supporters cheering them on at the regional final and were put in the judges' top three before being announced as joint winners with a solo singer from Uckfield.
The under-18s category was won by a dance troupe from Burgess Hill.
Vickie said the girls entered the talent contest after getting knocked out of the ITV1 show X Factor.
The girls just missed out on a place in the last 24 of the show.
