A UNIQUE collaboration has resulted in the first resident company being created at Brighton Dome this month.
Hofesh Schechter Company, arguably one of the hottest properties on the international dance scene, will be in residence and creating new work at Brighton Dome from November.
This collaboration reflects Brighton Dome's continued commitment to growi
ng the profile of dance in Brighton and the South East, and to developing its long-term relationships with artistes.
Hofesh Schechter will have offices at Brighton Dome and the three-year residency will launch with a performance of Uprising and In Your Rooms in the Concert Hall on November 18 as part of a Dance Touring Partnership UK tour.
The venue will then host research and development for future pieces, present several works including a new commission and a major education project as part of Brighton Festival 2009, and première a new full-length work in May, 2010.
Andrew Comben, chief executive of Brighton Dome and Festival, said: "I'm delighted to be welcoming Hofesh Schechter Company to Brighton and to be forging a close relationship with such an internationally significant company at this key stage in their development.
"I love their work and this new association really indicates what an exciting future Brighton Dome and Brighton Festival has to look forward to."
Hofesh Schechter said: "Brighton is such a vibrant, cosmopolitan city with a great international profile. I think it's a perfect match for us.
"We look forward to getting to know audiences here and hope we can become part of the city's cultural life. We relish this opportunity to work both locally and internationally."
Brighton Dome has three modern spaces under one unique dome historic roof and presents a superb year-round programme of music, dance, theatre and comedy. The theatre has built its reputation nationally by working with both internationally renowned and locally-based artistes.
