CHILDREN were evacuated from Ashington CE School after a lorry hit cables sparking a blaze this morning.
Firefighters worked to control the fire in Church Lane for more than an hour at 10.19am after a tipper lorry was in collision with the overhead cables.
Mum Karen Dare, 41, of London Road, Ashington, said: "There was a massive bang followed by two or three smaller ones.
"The first one shook everything in the village."

A power cut hit 385 customers at 10.15am as a result of the accident - an EDF Energy spokesperson said.
The power was back on at 12.24pm.
West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said 50 per cent of the lorry was destroyed.
Two fire crews from Storrington and one fire crew from Horsham attended the scene.
