AN AMERICAN grandmother is looking to solve a mystery that dates back to the Second World War and could involve someone in the Horsham district.
Betty Pesuth, 87, lives in Dunedin, Florida, and loves quilting. In November 2006, she was helping out at a friend's garage sale.

It was here that Betty noticed a pile of fabric. She took it home and discovered that it was the beginning of a pinwheel patterned quilt that had been left unfinished. Betty was excited to finish the quilt but she also knew that every quilt has a story.

So, Betty asked her friend about the quilt. She learned that the fabric pile and pieces of quilt had been in her friend's cupboard for 20 years.

Betty's friend had no idea who started the quilt because it came to her from England by friends who are now deceased. Betty's friend only knew one thing: the quilt had been started in England by a young woman when her husband went off to war, sometime between 1941-1945.

Then, Betty found a clue. She noticed a few small pieces of paper still attached to the back of the quilt's pinwheel pattern.

These pieces were cut out from a travel agency's brochure from Sussex. There are no other clues, but Betty would like to know who started this quilt because she intends to finish it.

Betty was also a World Ware II wartime bride in the United States and she feels that if there is a chance, she would like find the original quilter and that they hold the finished quilt together.
