RUSTINGTON was judged for the Britain in Bloom competition for the first time and, as chairman of the parish council, I was extremely proud with the way in which so many people within the community helped to make it such a successful day.
While the judges had to be careful what they said as the results are not known until mid-September, they were able to say how impressed they were with the welcome they received, the excellent way the village was presented, and with the way so many in
the community were involved in some way or another, both young and not so young!
I must say a very big THANK YOU to Fred Spanton and his In Bloom committee, the council staff, in particular Caroline Harris with all her photography for the portfolio, Rustington Residents' Association and various other community residents' associations, the Youth Offending Team and The Oaks Project, and Ferring Nurseries, whose great ideas have helped to make this year so different, as well as anyone else who helped to make the day such a joy.
We eagerly await the results for not only Britain in Bloom but South and South East in Bloom, but whatever they are, everyone who made it possible should be very proud of themselves. But I would not expect anything different from the community of Rustington.
