I REFER to your page one article (Gazette, October 2), concerning River ward being "the unhealthiest place to live".
I live in that ward and agree with some of the comments made by residents interviewed, in that I don't smoke, take drugs or eat unhealthily.
I am not a saint in that I enjoy the odd bottle of wine, but I wonder whether the problem of youngsters bi
nge-drinking stems from breweries continually introducing and promoting fancy bottles of alcopops and trendy "shot" drinks?
Prior to their introduction years ago, binge drinking was never a subject raised in the media, like it is today.
I would also like to respond to the young mother who stated "it costs so much to buy salad and vegetables, whereas we can get a burger and chips for £2".
As she has two children, she could feed them for far less by perhaps making a casserole with chicken thighs, a carrot, a parsnip, a can of tomato purée, a stock cube and supplemented with a few lentils — more nutritious than burger and chips.
Oops, sorry, I sound like Jamie Oliver!
