MIKE Northeast misses what's so worrying to some of us about Ford Airfield Eco-Town. ("It's anti-government rather than anti-Eco-town, says Labour's Mike Northeast", Gazette, May 6).
Calm down, Mike, it's a genuine fear, not an attempt to remove you from your job.
I voted for our present government, but I'm scared by how they've decided to choose the sites for the short-list of 15 Eco-Towns.
My vested interest is that I've
been a visitor to your part of Sussex for over 30 years.
After my wife, Julia Foster, performed at Chichester Festival Theatre for a season we loved living in West Sussex so much we bought a slice of a house here.
Mike, do you really think that a dormitory town of 5,000 homes, the eastern limit of which is less than 1,400 metres from Littlehampton, is good for West Sussex?
Do you honestly believe the developers when they say that businesses will want to relocate from Littlehampton and Bognor Regis to the new town to provide jobs for the people living in these new homes?
Hand on heart, can you really justify sacrificing 900 acres of the country's most productive arable land at a time when we're trying to reduce our dependency on imported food?
Try not to be so party political Mike.
Some of us do what we do without giving two hoots about politics.
