RECENTLY in The West Sussex Village Book, by Tony Wales, I found a mention of a song called the Littlehampton Collier.
I have never heard of this and I wonder if any reader knows of it.

According to the book, it was one of the old Sussex songs sung by the Boxgrove "Tipteers", or Mummers, in the 1930s.

Brian Gill, Horsham Road, Littlehampton

Editor's note:
Mr Gill may be interested to read that various websites refer to the song as Littlehampton Collier Lads.

It is apparently included in a collection of folk songs, English Folksinger, published by Richards & Stubbs and which has the words and music for the song.

Of course, if any readers have any more information, we would be pleased to hear from them.
