Recently, I witnessed first hand the damage that dog scoop-bags can do.
Walking my dog on the beach below the Bella Vista restaurant at East Preston, I noticed a transparent blue bag, full and neatly tied abandoned at the end of the breakwater as the tide went out.
The thought did go through my mind to dispose of it
myself, but I carried on walking.
About 200 yards further on, I came across a large dogfish stranded above the receding waterline.
Its head was tightly shrouded in a black plastic dog-scoop bag, and realising it was still alive, I released and placed it back in the sea.
I did go back for the bag on the breakwater, and disposed of it in one of the many bins in that area.
I also know that in future I will clear these bags left thoughtlessly on the beach and in the countryside.
Would dog owners stop and think about the effect these bags have on wildlife and the environment.
