IN response to Colin Marshall's letter (Gazette, July 10), I can inform him and Arun residents that tax-payers' money is not being spent establishing a renewable energy support service.
Only the prize money resulting from the council being finalists in the prestigious Ashden Awards for sustainable energy will be used, as agreed with the organisers.
If only, as Mr Marshall suggests, renewable energy such as solar and ground sou
rce heat pumps were commonplace on new build – they are not, and there is also the challenge of the existing housing stock, where high-quality advice and assistance will help homeowners to make decisions on the installation of renewable energy measures.
So, Mr Marshall, let's be clear – there will be no new department; it is clear that the young of the district are already embracing the green agenda, maybe this is because their futures will be impacted more by climate change than my generation or yours, so my message to you is be positive and celebrate the council's achievements which have been recognised nationally.
