THE inhabitants of Toddington and hundreds of other Sussex people must be thoroughly fed up with the traffic chaos in Worthing Road, Littlehampton, the A259 and part of the so-called "Strategic Road Network".
Many neighbouring roads have also been congested in the last few months by roadworks which do not appear to have been properly planned.
Toddington Lane was cut off before a suitable replacement was provided, and the current alternative outlet to W
orthing Road still has not been adequately surfaced.
It is obviously too narrow for the continuing volume of traffic, a fact which seems to be born out by recent temporary traffic lights which often caused tailbacks into the main road.
Surely all these factors should have been considered before the lane was closed at its junction with the A259?
Individual causes of delay between Wick and Littlehampton Cemetery (and beyond) have been too numerous to catalogue, and the strange "temporary" 30 miles per hour speed limit on its northern edge completely contradicts the permanent 40 miles per hour signs along that highway.
I expected the highways department of West Sussex County Council would have taken responsible steps to see there was a minimum of congestion and disturbance, but attempts to get that authority's positive comments have been fruitless.
There have been none of the customary roadside signs apologising for delays, which advise the name of the authority responsible.
If the county council is unable to control the availability of public highways and keep them in a fit state, then who is?
