WHERE has Jan Cosgrove been these last four months, as your excellent paper and others have covered the issues surrounding the Ford Eco-Town in immense detail?
I am astounded that assertions such as those in his letter, "Affordable housing would bear a look" (Gazette, August 28), can be made at this stage.
In passing, I fail to see any parallel at all, to the infamous Nazi movement, unless it refers to m
ass shipment of population to enclosed spaces, in which case, I suggest he levels this charge at Whitehall.
CAFE (Communities Against Ford Eco-Town) has been at pains, all the way through, to emphasise the need to provide affordable housing, but in the right place and with the right infrastructure.
Therefore, surely Mr Cosgrove, living in Bognor, will be well aware of the 2,000 people who live there and who have applied for housing.
So far.
However, we have seen no willingness among this group, to be transported at all; and this applies to the remaining bulk of the 4,000 that Mr Cosgrove refers to, who actually live in Littlehampton.
That said, Arun District Council has already started the process to identify, as part of the Local Development Framework, extra housing to meet perceived need and Whitehall will be asked to approve these plans early in the new year, as part of the somewhat dented diplomatic process.
Surely Mr Cosgrove, with his expert knowledge and close links to Arun, knows about these plans – and they do not envisage a special enclave in the middle of a ploughed field, Mr Cosgrove.
