I would like to reply to some of the points of view expressed by Messrs Penfold, Dixon and Hall (June 19).
Can Mr Penfold remember the letter he wrote, and had published in the local newspaper, saying that the residents of Aldingbourne did not want major developments in their village, because of a fear of increased traffic, crime and vandalism?
Every r
esident in Ford and certain other villages have given the thumbs down to the Eco-Town proposition, so how these three people can say they have a huge "yes" is beyond me.
I, too, hope that people have attended the exhibitions, and noted the arrogance of certain members of the Ford Airfield Vision Group, who think their views are all that matter, and the thousands that do not agree are nimbys.
I would like to understand how this can be called an eco-town, when thousands of extra vehicles will be on our inadequate roads, enabling people to do their weekly shop, take their children to school, transporting building materials on to site.
Listed are a few reasons why the prefix "eco" should be used:
No infrastructure, there is no link road or Arundel by-pass,
It is not possible to create 4,000 new well-paid jobs, there are already vacant units on existing industrial estates.
It will involve concreting over good food producing land when there is a wide shortage.
I could go on explaining why Ford is unsuitable as an eco-town, but there is not enough room in your newspaper to do so.
