I AM writing to correct the misleading impression created by the leader of Arun District Council (Gazette, 7th August) when she states: "I think a lot of local residents will find it strange she travelled all this way without even seeing the area that could be so dramatically transformed".
I also attended the meeting with the minister for communities and local government and as soon as the minister arrived she stated three things; she had visited the site, she had visited Littlehampton, and she had seen the Challenge Panel the previous
day.

Perhaps the minister simply preferred to see the site independently of promoters and those from the council-led community campaign in order to form a balanced and independent view?

In a district with over 4,000 households on the housing waiting list, the lowest average wage in West Sussex, 40 per cent of the workforce out-commuting every day, a serious infrastructure deficit, particularly on the A27 at Arundel, below average educational attainment, etc., we should be grateful that a government minister found the time, in the parliamentary recess, to visit the district and listen to the views of those on all sides of the Eco-Town debate.

Mr Dickson springs to the defence of the Minister for Housing - methinks he protests too much.
The Minister was invited to visit by Arun DC and CAFE. Do you not think it strange that she elected not to be shown round by local people, who know only too well, the fields she presumes to concrete over?
Did the Minister stand in the middle of the old runway, surrounded by tarmac and say "Here be brownfields"? We don't know.
Did she ask about the airfield buildings now turned over to Ford Prison this many a long year? We don't know.
Did the Minister look at the hundreds of acres of golden corn, wheat and barley, which if ploughed up will lose us the ability to neutralise 6,400 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year? We don't know.
What we do know is that the Minister seems incapable of understanding that of the 4,000 houses needed in the locality, 2,000 are in Bognor and 1,700 in Littlehampton - with a very small requirement of 200 in the Yapton/Ford area.
We are suffering from a civil servant with a big hand, putting it over a small map and losing the plot.
Local plots are of course another thing, Mr Dickson.

Terry Knott springs to the defence of the Ford Eco Town - methinks he protests too much. Maybe some people should pay more attention to detail and avoid media spin to support a false case.

HOusing is very much needed, moreso when it has been and is Conservative Policy to avoid not only affordable housing but also social housing, leaving thousands to suffer such horrendous conditions.

Furthermore, Arun District holds acres of land that could and should be put to better use. Which the priority should be Affordable and Social Housing, sorry if that might affect your comfortable views.

Thank of others, before your own selfishness....

Terry Knott, has lost the plot. Housing is needed, Ford is a prime place to place new housing, not to mention the acres of wasted land that could be used for housing. But when I say housing, I mean social housing.

food4thought thinks prime grade 1 agricultural land is 'wasted land'. I suppose to a greedy profit-hungry developer it would be. To many of us is is a vital part of the local area we love. Methinks it is you who has lost the plot.
Fortunately we are not all so easily conned, and a big thank you goes to Cafe who are articulating the concerns of local people so well.
