A dramatic three-minute film which shows how a birthday night out ends in horror and heartbreak for a group of teenagers can now be seen thanks to West Sussex County Council.
The video is based on film images used as background in Safe Drive Stay Alive, a stage production by the county fire and rescue service aimed at saving the lives of young motorists.
Cllr Brad Watson, county cabinet member for communications, said the production had been seen by thousands of young people aged 16 to 18 – one of the most at-risk groups likely to be involved in a serious or fatal accident – throughout West Sussex.
"Now, thousands more young drivers and those about to take their test can learn the powerful messages it puts across," he added.
"I urge all teenage drivers to watch this moving production before they get behind the steering wheel of a car. We have used a mix of students and professional actors.
"Our video is not afraid to tackle the difficult area of road death among young people in a hard-hitting way.
"The technology of video and television has become considerably cheaper and much more accessible," said Cllr Watson.
"We are finding there is a tremendously positive reaction to the videos we have made so far. Pictures really are worth a thousand words."
