Chichester Army Cadets have returned to local schools and colleges after spending two weeks at one of the country's largest youth camps.
More than 300 cadets from the Sussex Army Cadet Force, ranging from 12 to 18 years paid a visit to Nescliffe training centre in Shropshire to take part in military excercises as part of their annual summer camp.
Activities included abseiling, archery, kayaking and mountain biking, as well as practising their first aid and safe weapon handling skills.
They also went on to endure a three-day field exercise under the supervision of volunteer adult instructors where they lived under canvas and ate only rationed food.
Adult instructor Sgt Caroline Siam, a mother of five who are all army cadets, said: "It's extremely rewarding to work with these cadets and being there to encourage them to learn new skills while turning them into tomorrow's responsible adults."
Cadets aged 16 and above also had the opportunity to get a BTEC first diploma, the equivalent of four GCSEs. Cadets can use their service to work towards the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.
