FIREBUGS tried to torch a town centre charity shop in a heartless arson attack.
Hooligans set fire to bins in the car park behind the YMCA, in The Broadway, on Sunday morning (September 29).
Police are examining CCTV images of the blaze for clues.
A spokesman for the charity said: "This isn't the first time it has happened. I'm just glad the building wasn't damaged and that nobody was around to get hurt. Now we just have to clean up the mess."
Unidentified yobs targeted the town centre shop at 12.45am on Sunday but police were not informed until 7.44am Monday morning (September 29).
A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: "I can confirm that we received information about this incident from a member of the public. They reported that the bins behind the YMCA store had been set alight.
"We are keen to speak to anyone who might have more information about this incident. People can get in touch with us on (0845) 60 70 999 quoting serial 223 of September 29."
