RESIDENTS in Ifield are in a stink over a 'nasty pong' wafting over their neighbourhood.

The stink is caused by piles of sewage sludge waiting to be spread over farmland at the edge of town.

Ellie Blunden, 63, Tangmere Road, Ifield, said: "You do notice the smell. It is a very strong smell of sewage drifting towards town. It's not very nice first thing in the morning.

"It's obviously something to do with the farms and you sort of get used to it. Luckily it hasn't be too hot this summer though otherwise we could have been worse off."
