POLICE have released pictures of conmen who posed as water board workers to target elderly people in a spate of callous distraction burglaries.
Two men tricked a woman, in her 90s, and an elderly man, in his 70s before making off with cash.
One man pretended to check water pressure while the other rifled through the pensioners' possessions.
The crooks struck at Buckingham Court, Broadfield on Saturday (October 11).
A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "Between 5.30pm and 6.30pm on Saturday October 11, two unknown men attended Buckingham Court, posing as being from the Waterboard.
"They informed an elderly female that there was a flood in an adjacent flat and they needed to check the water pressure.
"One of these men distracted her, asking her to hold the taps to check for vibration, and the other rifled through her personal belongings stealing a quantity of cash."
After striking at the elderly woman's flat they tried the scam again at a property upstairs.
The spokesman added: "The men then asked this lady to take them upstairs to an unsuspecting elderly gentleman in his 70s, where they used the same excuse to gain entry to his home."
Cops are hunting the two conmen described as being in their 30s to 40s, one with fair hair and the other with brown hair.
The spokesman added: "Both were wearing dark blue jackets and significantly it was noted that a logo similar to SLO was seen on the breast part of the coat."
Now cops are warning residents to be on the look out for bogus callers.
The spokesman added: "Residents are urged to not let anyone into their homes without having first seen genuine ID cards and if still in doubt, to call the company they alleged to be from."
Sussex Police are appealing to witnesses or anyone with information about the offences and are asked to contact DC Barry Collyer on (0845) 60 70 999 quoting serial 1638 of October 11.
For complete confidentiality call Crimestoppers on (0800) 555 111.
