Bus services were due to stop today (Friday) as part of an ongoing row over pay.

But a legal challenge from Metrobus has prevented workers from walking out.

The company has announced that its services would be running 'as normal' after it successfully lodged a legal challenge against Unite union.

Unite told the Observer today that they were 'astonished' by the ruling as it had held previous strikes and believed it had complied with all the strict legal obligations covering industrial action.

Union workers are demanding that operators of Transport for London services, which includes Metrobus, pay drivers a uniform rate of at least £30,000 a year, based on a 38-hour week.

Members have already snubbed a four per cent pay offer.

A spokeswoman for Metrobus, based in Wheatstone Close, Crawley, said: "Following a successful legal challenge, Metrobus are pleased to announce that the planned strike for Friday October 10 has been called off.

"All services will be running as normal."
