A vast majority of people in West Sussex believe measures should be taken to protect the public from knife crime, according to results from a county council online poll.
Results on the website show 82 per cent of voters think teachers in England should be allowed to search pupils for knives.
Another question asked if staff in potentially-vulnerable situations should be provided with protective armour to protect th
em from knife crime – 72 per cent thought they should be.
Cllr Brad Watson, county cabinet member for communications, said: "It is important to find out what people think about key issues which affect them.
"This is the main aim of quick poll, and we will continue to run it as it provides such useful results."
