West Sussex fire and rescue service has a new county fire officer – Max Hood, who was an assistant commissioner with the London Fire Brigade.
He takes over from Martin Burrell, who has completed 35 years in the fire and rescue service, the last eight in West Sussex.
Mr Hood joined the London Fire Brigade 25 years ago, starting as a firefighter and working up to being an assistant commis
sioner in the capital for the past eight years.
He has attended a wide variety of incidents, ranging from large fires to emergency special services, including building collapses, explosions and major rail disasters.
Mr Hood was awarded the Queen's Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service in this year's Birthday Honours list.
He said: "I'm delighted to be taking over and joining such a fantastic fire and rescue service. I am particularly looking forward to meeting all the staff and stations and getting to know West Sussex better."
