West Sussex County Council's goal of sweeping away two-member electoral divisions and having 100 per cent single-member divisions throughout the county has been achieved.
The proposals are put forward in final recommendations published by the Boundary Committee for England, which will mean the total membership of the county council is set to increase from 70 to 71.
The two-member divisions now due to disappear are
in the northern part of West Sussex.
Cllr Bill Acraman, chairman of the county council's boundary panel, said the final recommendations were largely satisfactory, achieving the major goal of abolishing two-member divisions.
The committee had heeded the considerable demands of Ashington residents to stay in a division with Storrington – a solution the county should accept.
"I am confident this will be endorsed at the next county council meeting," Cllr Acraman added.
The new arrangements would be in place in time for the county council elections in June next year.
