Chichester's ancient Guildhall will be alive with the sound of music on September 13.
The event will be part of national heritage open day celebrations and the annual 'ride and stride' trail of Sussex Historic Churches, which take place on the same date this year.

The Guildhall, in Priory Park, is a Grade 1 listed building and a sc
heduled ancient monument, owned by the district council.

There will be live performances by classical harpist Sarah Dyble, and a small exhibition and musical demonstrations reflecting the life and works of two of Chichester's most famous composers, Thomas Weelkes (1576-1623) and John Marsh (1752-1828).

As part of the fun, 'John Marsh' will be making an appearance in period costume, reading from his journals.

These give an insight into the past life and times of the city in the same way as the Samuel Pepys diaries do for London.

The Guildhall will be open from 9am to 6pm and the music-related programme will take place between 11am and 3pm. For more details, telephone 01243 784683 or email districtmuseum@chichester.gov.uk
