Drummy has already identified Crawley players to let go

Reds have just three players - Gwion Edwards, Simon Walton and Joe McNerney - contracted beyond the end of the season and the head coach says he is trying to act ‘quickly and honestly’ in regards to who else he wants to keep from the squad. A number have already caught the eye of the boss in view of new contracts, including captain Sonny Bradley, but he is keen to sort things out quickly for everyone’s best interests. On whether he is close to making decisions, Drummy said: “I’ve got to be close, because in fairness to those players out of contract I don’t want to be saying to them in pre-season, ‘by the way, find a club’. “I think it’s fair to the players that if I have identified that they are not going to be for the future, I tell them now and that gives them another six weeks to try and find a club. “There are a few that I have got to meet, probably tomorrow to tell them. I wanted to do the meetings on Monday and one or two have come and asked me and I have spoken to them. “I am trying to do it as quickly and honestly as I can. “We have got one more game and I won’t lie there are thoughts in my mind of who is going to stay. Like I said, the players need an answer, there is no ‘in six weeks’ time’. “If I let a player go, I need to get a player in. I haven’t got players set up already to come in, but we are talking to people, we have targets that’s obvious. “It’s a tough time for everybody and I have come into that. All I can do is try and get them up on their spirits and may the best man win kind of thing.” Drummy has also been working hard off the field in view of sorting out new training facilities for next season. He wants to have a more local base for sessions over the current agreement which sees them based at Ardingly College. He added: “We have certainly identified some areas. Distance is very important if we are going to be based at the ground, I don’t want it anymore than ten minutes. “If we are away from the ground then I want a proper base where the players are permanent. “We have found a couple of sites that I thought were good and Kelly (Derham - operations director) is going to get onto the relevant people and get things going.” Don’t miss out on all the latest breaking news where you live.
